Monet's late works depicting iconic motifs from his garden in Giverny, such as the Japanese footbridge, water lilies, and wisterias are among the most innovative of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Taking reflection in all of its meanings as the governing theme—as a literal motif as well as a metaphor for both Monet’s experimentation and our own thoughtful viewing of his painting—this exhibition will bring together twelve masterpieces to look anew at the range of Monet’s output in Giverny and to consider the importance of his garden as a continuing source of reflective inspiration.

A Conversation with James Priest, Head Gardener at Monet’s Giverny

Explore the botanical world of artist Claude Monet with James Priest, Head Gardener at Monet’s Giverny, and Dr. Benedict Leca, Cincinnati Art Museum Curator of European Painting, Sculpture and Drawings. Trained as a horticulturalist at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, James Priest began his tenure as Head Gardener at Claude Monet’s garden estate in Giverny on June 1st of this year. The Faux Frenchmen will be putting a modern twist on American-French “gypsy jazz” music while docents provide an in-depth look at the special exhibition, Monet in Giverny: Landscapes of Reflection.
